Lunch Bites 2026: Are We Talking About the Same Thing? Standardising specialised Terms with the Vocabulary Development Support Service
by Mark Vanin (TIB Hannover)

The Vocabulary Development Support Service (VDST) is a collaborative vocabulary service designed to resolve terminology ambiguities and establish a shared terminology among members of a given community. The service collect terms, supports collaborative discussion and features a “consensus” voting mechanism, enabling users to collectively determine term stability and align on their definitions. Ultimately, VDST converts human-driven domain knowledge into a standardized, machine-readable format, with all information transparently hosted and maintained in a public GitHub repository.
