Detailed description of the service

What is it about?
The NFDI4Ing Q&A platform is an easy-to-use collaborative service for engineering researchers to gather answers to common questions on all areas of research data management (RDM). General questions such as ‘How can I plan a data publication’ or ‘Where can I find engineering-specific data repositories’, as well as more advanced questions such as ‘Are there any tools to manage research data especially designed for Machine Learning?’ are answered here by members of the NFDI4ING and the research community.

How to ask questions?
Whether it’s the first steps for a new research project or advanced questions of research data management, just go to the ‘Ask a question’ tab and fill in the request form. Perhaps another user has already asked a question similar to yours? Check out the ‘Questions’, ‘Hot!’ and ‘Unanswered’ categories.

What’s the benefit?
Getting your own questions answered or helping others with their research data – in a simple and straightforward way.

The Q&A platform is part of the support services of NFDI4ING. We share our knowledge related to best RDM practices and solutions, and encourage the engineering community to share their insights with us. At the same time, this collaborative space helps to gather best practices and information on the specific needs of RDM in the engineering sciences.

Who can take part?
Anyone who has questions about RDM solutions is invited to share them with the community here. If you would like to answer another user’s question, simply register as a user and help support the platform. The more people take part, the better!

Fun fact: all users earn points by answering questions and are ranked in a list of top scoring users Try it and join in!

Terms of use & restrictions

The service is free of charge. Questions can be submitted by using an enquiry form; it is optional to enter your name and e-mail address. If you want to answer another user’s question, you must register once free of charge.

Tags

NFDI4ING services may be relevant to different users according to varying requirements. To support filtering or sorting, we added a tag system outlining which archetype, phase of the data lifecycle, or degree of maturity a service corresponds to. By clicking on one of the tags below, you can get an overview of all services aligned with each tag.

This service has the following tags:

The tags correspond to:
The Archetypes: Services relevant to Alex – Bespoke Experiments, Betty – Research Software Engineering, Caden – Provenance Tracking, Doris – High Performance Computing, Ellen – Complex Systems, Fiona – Data Re-Use and Enrichment

The data lifecycle: Services related to Informing & Planning, Organising & Processing, Describing & Documenting, Storing & Computing,
Finding & Re-Using, Learning & Teaching

The maturity of the service: Services sorted according to their maturity and status of their integration into the larger NFDI service landscape. For this we use the Integration Readiness Level (IRL), ranging from IRL0 (no specifications, strictly internal use) up to IRL4 (fully integrated in the German research data landscape and the EOSC). Click here for a diagram outlining all Integration Readiness Levels.
