NFDI4ING Fiona’s Summer School 2026: Playful RDM
NFDI4ING invites engineers and researchers to FIONA’s Summer School 2026, a practice-oriented training on modern research data management in engineering sciences. During the summer school, a small-scale data-driven engineering experiment is conducted to theoretically learn and practically apply Research Data Management (RDM). Look forward to clamping blocks, gears and measurement technology in your pocket. 😉 It is focused on research data management challenges faced by our Archetype Fiona on data provisioning and reusage.
Program
The Summer School takes place from August 4th to 6th 2026 on-site in Aachen. The topics cover:
- Why RDM is important to your work
- Documenting your experimental setup
- Recording data using your phone as example
- Metadata management using engineering terms
- Simple data analysis using Jupyter Notebooks
- Publishing your data for others to reuse it
- Data archiving for long term availability
Participants will gain hands-on experience with FAIR tools, concepts, and best practices to enable transparent, reusable, and verifiable research. We will provide a comprehensive introduction with practical exercises and our experimental case for FAIR data management, demonstrating the application of software, concepts and best practice from NFDI4ING beginning with the planning of an experiment to the publication of data and results.Â
Registration
Registration procedure will be announced here later.
