Lunch Bite Dec 2026: Codifying Digital Preservation with the EOSC EDEN Core Preservation Processes
by Micky Lindlar (TIB – Leibniz Information Centre for Science and Technology )
Digital preservation is supported by many guidance documents, frameworks and standards that explain its larger concepts. But what do the processes actually look like in practice? How do other institutions implement them? And how do these processes link to theoretical standards? To answer these questions, the EU-Horizon funded EOSC EDEN project (2025-2027) created the Core Preservation Processes (CPPs) – a set of 30 essential processes that every digital archive should undertake, either independently or in collaboration with a partner institution. The CPPs provide guidance for implementing digital preservation processes and workflows. As guidance documents suited for any digital archive, regardless of specific content, domain or discipline, they can be used for many different archival use cases within the NFDI4Ing community such as long-term archives preserving 2D or 3D data from architecture or civil engineering.
The presentation will give a short introduction to EOSC EDEN and the project’s Re-Use Fitness Framework, within which the CPPs are embedded. Participants will learn what the Core Preservation Processes contain and how they can interact with them.
Program
The session consists of a 15-minute presentation followed by a 15-minute Q&A and discussion.

About NFDI4ING Lunch Bites
NFDI4ING Lunch Bites is a monthly online series featuring short presentations and discussions on Research Data Management in engineering. Each session consists of a 15-minute talk and a 15-minute Q&A, offering practical insights into research projects, workflows, tools, and services from the engineering community. The series takes place on the first Wednesday of every month.
