The National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI) initiave is jointly funded by the German government and the governments of the federal states. It’s objective is to “systematically index, edit, interconnect and make available the valuable stock of data from science and research.” A central goal is to overcome the currently often decentralised, project-related, or temporary form of research data and find sustainable solutions to open it up for wider audiences in society, science and industry. Therefore, the initiative “will set new data management standards and serve as a digital, regionally distributed and networked knowledge platform to secure research data and its usability in the long term.” Further information on NFDI’s funding, structure and how to become a member can be found on their website.
