Data Search Index

NFDI4ING’s Data Search Index provides a central point of access for searching for research data across numerous distributed repositories. The search tool is freely available and offers both a graphical user interface and an open API for searching and querying metadata.

Finding and reusing engineering data
The NFDI4ING Data Search Index helps engineers find and reuse freely available research data. It provides a central search portal that is easy and intuitive to use and can be accessed for free without registration.

The NFDI4ING Data Search Index is based on RESODATE, a central search engine for Research Software, Data and Terminologies. RESODATE was originally developed by Technische Informationsbibliothek (TIB) in February 2023 as a reused approach of the Open Educational Resources Search Index OERSI to find research artifacts in distributed repositories.

The idea behind the search index is to harvest metadata from distributed repositories to find open data in a single point of entry. The metadata is updated daily, and a weekly cleanup process minimizes the number of outdated entries. In terms of harvesting processes, the index is highly flexible and currently supports not only common repository software such as DSpace and CKAN, but also OAI-PMH and the retrieval of sitemaps.
