NFDI4ING Community Meeting RSE 2026 - NFDI4ING

Community Meeting - Construct Tomorrow with software

Welcome &
general information

The Community Meeting is a satellite event to the deRSE26 conference in Stuttgart.

“Construct Tomorrow with Software”

We cordially invite you to the NFDI4ING Community Meeting “Construct Tomorrow with Software” – an exchange format specifically aimed at research software engineers (RSEs) affiliated with the engineering sciences, but also more generally at anyone who develops, uses, or supports research software. This Community Meeting is a satellite event of the Conference deRSE26. While we welcome you also if you don’t attend the conference, we highly recommend to do so: Link to deRSE26 registration.

The aim of the 90-minute meeting is to:

  • gather needs, feedback, and requirements from the community
  • present solutions, tools, and services from NFDI4ING and beyond,
  • and discuss together how we can shape the research software of the future.

Time & Place

Tuesday, 03.03.2026, 10:30-12:00 h
Hörsaalzentrum ETI I
Pfaffenwaldring 47
70569 Stuttgart

Preliminary agenda

Stages along the research software lifecycle

In an interactive session, you can expect various themed tables that represent key steps in software development and use in the research environment:

1. Planning

Software Management Plan with RDMO:
We will discuss how research software can be systematically recorded and structured as early as the planning phase.

Finding and making research software visible:
We will present tools and platforms such as Betty’s Research Engine, the Research Software Directory, nfdi.software, and ORKG.

Jupyter Ecosystem & Use Case Benchmark Platform:
We demonstrate how Jupyter simplifies data analysis and also benchmarking of simulation software and makes these tasks reproducible.

Codemeta & CFF:
Create your own codemeta.json or CITATION.cff file for your software repository right on the spot.

Licensing, Publication & Reuse:
This section covers license selection with LicenseChecker, sustainable publication, and embedding in Software Heritage.

High Performance Computing:
We will discuss the requirements of engineering software in the HPC context with you.

What we would like to know from participants:

  • What challenges do you encounter in this software lifecycle step?
  • What tools or processes do you currently use?
  • What support or features would you like to see?

Information we would like to convey:

  • What services NFDI4ING and others already offer.
  • How these services specifically help in research practice.
  • How you can get involved, provide feedback, and report requirements.

We look forward to a lively community meeting, lots of ideas, and working together to consider how we can shape the research software of tomorrow.
