NFDI4ING Summer School 2026: Hands-on Research Data Management for Engineers
NFDI4ING invites engineers and researchers to ALEX’ Summer School 2026, a practice-oriented training on modern research data management in engineering sciences. The summer school combines online preparatory courses with an intensive on-site workshop in Darmstadt. It is focused on research data management challenges faced by our Archetype Alex (“Bespoke Experiments”).
Program
The program starts with two online sessions on 30 June and 2 July 2026 (approx. 4 hours per day), offering an on-ramp to essential tools:
- Day 1: Python on-ramp course
- Day 2: Git on-ramp course
The on-site phase takes place from 6–8 July 2026 at TU Darmstadt and focuses on applying FAIR principles throughout the research lifecycle:
- Day 1: Designing and documenting experiments
- Day 2: Data collection and workflow documentation
- Day 3: Publishing FAIR digital objects and linking them to research results
Participants will gain hands-on experience with FAIR tools, concepts, and best practices to enable transparent, reusable, and verifiable research. We will provide a comprehensive introduction with practical exercises and our experimental case for FAIR data management, demonstrating the application of software, concepts and best practice from NFDI4ING beginning with the planning of an experiment to the publication of data and results. We hope that we enable the participants to spread our experiences and provide feedback from other disciplines.
